A Little Bit About Us
We are a diverse group of 10-15 sambistas mainly from Ely. We play some traditional samba rhythms and also some songs written by local sambistas. The music we play is Brazilian but also draws influence from all over the world.
Ely Samba Band was set up in 2005 by community musician and workshop leader Tom the Pom to involve the local community in making beautiful Samba rhythms.
Previous leaders include the talented Emma Hanid from Arco Iris community samba band.
The band is currently led by Katie Woodcock of Fruity Clave Samba Band.
The band was initially funded by ADeC (Arts Development East Cambs) but now funds itself.
Performing at local events such as the Ely Eel Parade, Burwell Carnival, Ely Aquafest, we are guaranteed to liven up any occasion.
Bring the atmosphere of Brazilian carnival to your event!
