Bafo da Onca (Breath of the Jaguar) is a Maracatu band based in Ipswich Suffolk. We play Maracatu, Coco, Forro, Ciranda – basically any type of music from North-East Brazil.
The band includes percussion, piano accordion and guitars and numbers around 12 musicians plus dancers and singers. We are available to play anywhere in the UK and Ireland.
All the band members are experienced in Brazilian percussion and have played with various Samba bands including Norwich Samba, Essex Samba, Suffolk School of Samba and Bloco do Sol Nascente.
Members have studied in Recife,Brazil and with Sam Alexander, Holly Prest, Nina Arnessen and New York Maracatu.
